Gallerie Nvyā is pleased to present the works of seven South-Asian masters : Sakti Burman, Manu Parekh, Thota Vaikuntam, Senaka Senanayake, K S Radhakrishnan, Ravinder Reddy and Paresh Maity, to weave the allegorical narrative of the exhibition, ‘Intuiting Ley lines’.
‘Leys’ or ‘ley lines’ are said to be once recognised by ancient societies as alignments drawn to connect and form histories. They were deliberately drafted over land as guides to erect monumental markings with a belief that along them, there are sinuous ‘earth energies’. Ranging as latitudinal and longitudinal depictions,
there were alleged pockets of concentrated energy on them, that could rarely ever be harnessed. They were spiritual lines and at their conjunctions, a foundation for holy sites and sacred wells, ruins and mounds, churches or temples were laid. These theories of the early 20s, claim for a liaison of sacrosanct sites such as Giza, Chichen Itza, Stonehenge, Sacra di San Michelo.
The selected works of ‘Intuiting Ley lines’ look towards a similar radiation of energy.
As part of Gallerie Nvyā’s presentation, on one hand one can see Sakti Burman’s pieces are seen to depict community, liberation and devotion; while on the other Manu Parekh’s city of Varanasi looks at the radiant capacity of the urbane to exude divinity. The works on display cover a range of subjects, including figuratives of Thota Vaikuntam, floral compositions of Sri-Lankan artist Senaka Senanayake alongside, an imposing bust by Ravinder Reddy. They are varied in colour and in spirit, evoking fluttering
sentimentalities. K S Radhakrishnan’s sculptural magnanimity presents the joy of liberation, a solace found in unfastening. There is also Paresh Maity’s unique, minimalist depiction of Kali which empowers, while also guides the viewer to bow in the presence the goddess.
The exhibition ‘Intuiting Ley lines’ is a reminder of divinity, which comes in forms — known and unknown, countless physicalities, rivers of supernatural energy and floods of ancestral memory.
‘Intuiting Ley lines’ is curated by Shristi Sainani.
